Arsenal’s flying right wingers (or strikers, or erm central midfielder etc) were in action for England in a crunch grudge match against power houses San Marino or something. Or maybe not power houses or indeed crunch match but it is the International break and you have to try and get through it somehow haven’t you? Anyway without Arsène seemingly knowing what his best team is, at least at the sharp end of the pitch, it was handy to know how both players would perform given our inconsistent start to the 2015/16 campaign. Unfortunately both players did not start the game together, that would have been better for us fans, the players and Arsenal but Roy isn’t wearing his new Arsenal kit underneath his shirt at this moment in time, so he kicked off with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain with the bearded Theo Walcott on the bench.
Thankfully both players had a contribution to the game, firstly Alex the Ox made up for his below par performance at St James’ Park last weekend with a decent display and created a goal for Ross Barkley with a super cross from the right. He had beaten his full back several times before that so that was most pleasing.
Teo Walcott (As Arsène calls him) came on for Chamberlain later in the game and supplied the clinical finishing that he missed at Newcastle. Starting from the right he made those trademark darts in behind and the San Maurinho’s found him too hot to handle. Walcott tapped in Delph’s drilled cross for his first and later produced a neat across the keeper side foot into the far corner for his second.
I wonder if Arsène is reconsidering him on the right once more. We haven’t seen it for a while now. For all his limitations (and there are a few) we could do with his additional goalscoring threat from wide.
Anyway thanks to @Mozorla19 for creating this video which features all the touches from both players during the 90 minutes.
